Flemping Loons and Space Balloons

The Midterm elections have me pondering political dysfunction in DC. My ire is focused on the Republican Party and Donald Trump. His policies come from a series of space balloons he floats to see what gets MAGA traction, or from neural misfires that history has proven do not work. Trump’s leadership has nothing to do with governing the country. It is about what is good for Donald Trump. His Presidency is a triumph of ignorance. His eruptions of unexamined thoughts provide a capsule review of his excursions into absurdity. Trump is mentally and emotionally unstable.

The Republican Party’s willingness to support this nonsense through inaction is disheartening.

Political grievances, retribution, tariffs, backward geopolitical views, trade wars, and other dumb ideas without merit. Trump got into office by blaming immigrants and Democrats for the nation’s troubles when the primary challenge facing the United States is bad fiscal governance of the United States.

He’s cut taxes for some Americans while exploding the budget deficit for America. Weaponizing government to serve his needs has arguably been his most successful gambit. This should not be permitted.

Our government has ignored fiscal problems for the last 25 years. The USA is $40.75 trillion in debt, with interest exceeding $1.2 trillion per year. Trump has accelerated this decline. The House and Senate have decided to sell new debt to pay for old debt. Throughout history, this solution has failed. The consequences of this failure will be unpleasant.

The largest discretionary item in the Federal Budget is the Department of Defense. We spent over $900 million on that for the fiscal year ended in September. Pete Hegseth asked for $1.5 trillion in this year’s budget. This supports a war nobody wanted, and Congress didn’t authorize.

This midterm is a referendum on Donald Trump and the Republican Party. I hope the Democrats take control of both the House and Senate to curb Trump.

I’m not saying the Democrats are brilliant leaders with great ideas. They will curtail Trump and bring accountability. The Legislative Branch will start exercising Constitutional responsibility again. We can deal with the future in 2028. The present needs fixing.

This process can begin on November 4, 2026, if we all vote for Democrats. Exercise your personal power. GET OUT AND VOTE FOR DEMOCRATS!

A Checklist of Dangerous Trump Actions

  1. Politicizing the Department of Justice. Using federal law enforcement against political opponents threatens prosecutorial independence and the rule of law.
  2. Military conflict with Iran. Sustained military operations without clear congressional authorization risk American lives, regional stability, and constitutional war powers.
  3. Weakening support for Ukraine. Pressuring Ukraine while reducing economic pressure on Russia risks rewarding territorial aggression and weakening American credibility.
  4. Expanding presidential control over independent institutions. Removing institutional safeguards and increasing political control over federal agencies concentrate executive power.
  5. Interfering with election administration. Federal pressure on state election officials and politically sensitive investigations threaten electoral independence and public confidence.
  6. Weakening immigration due-process protections. Aggressive detention and deportation practices risk violating constitutional protections and exposing individuals to wrongful removal.
  7. Sweeping and unpredictable tariffs. Broad tariffs increase costs, disrupt supply chains, damage trading relationships, and create economic uncertainty.
  8. Pressuring the Federal Reserve. Political interference in monetary policy threatens central-bank independence, inflation control, and confidence in the dollar.
  9. Dismantling scientific research capacity. Reducing research funding and eliminating experienced scientific personnel threatens innovation and America’s long-term competitiveness.
  10. Challenging congressional spending authority. Withholding or canceling congressionally appropriated funds without proper authorization undermines Congress’s constitutional power of the purse.

A Checklist of Trump Acts

  1. Attacking our closest allies and trading partners—wrongly accusing them of taking advantage of the United States.
  2. His entire tariff regime is technically illegal and nonsensical.
  3. ICE raids and killing U.S. citizens.
  4. Triggering inflation through tariffs, trade wars, and shooting wars.
  5. Shamefully siding with a murderous dictator, Vladimir Putin, and his Ukraine policies in general.
  6. Suggesting the United States should annex Canada.
  7. Suggesting the United States should buy Greenland and attempting to force Denmark (a NATO member) to comply.
  8. His personal grifting: taking gifts from foreign countries, conning people with altcoins, doing pay-for-play with corporations, threatening news media for reporting, the news.
  9. Turning the Department of Justice into his personal vendetta machine.

A Checklist of Trump’s Space Balloons

  1. Serving a third presidential term. The 22nd Amendment prohibits anyone from being elected president more than twice.
  2. Using tariffs to finance government. Tariffs are paid by American importers. They raise costs for American businesses and consumers.
  3. Turning Gaza into a luxury resort. Proposed American control of Gaza, relocating Palestinians, and transforming the territory into a Mediterranean resort destination.
  4. Acquiring Greenland. Threatened a NATO ally’s territorial sovereignty despite existing American military access to Greenland.
  5. Making Canada the 51st state. Suggested annexing an independent nation of approximately 40 million people and one of America’s closest allies.
  6. Introducing 50-year mortgages. Extending mortgages to 50 years reduces monthly payments but dramatically increases lifetime interest expenses.
  7. Reopening Alcatraz. Proposed reopening an expensive, obsolete island prison that closed in 1963.
  8. Selling Gold Card residency privileges. Proposed selling immigration privileges to wealthy foreigners while claiming the proceeds could substantially reduce the national debt.
  9. Renaming the Gulf of Mexico and Lake Ontario.
  10. Bringing back plastic straws. Made reversing federal paper-straw policies a presidential priority despite much more consequential national problems.
