Blog Updates 2026
I have been blogging since the early 2000s on a variety of platforms. When I discovered Bear, it was refreshing. Bear reminded me of the internet of the 1990s. Friction-free, populated by normal people.
It is so undemanding. Setting-up a blog required 15 minutes of effort. I wanted a personal space on the web because I knew I was a few years from retirement, and I wanted a personal blog that required little effort to set up and maintain. Minimalist in design. The relative anonymity Bearblog provides is appealing. I was fresh from firing X and Facebook. I wanted a normal people space.
This year it was time to update my theme and layout. I’m a little more motivated to work on CSS and HTML now, but the easy way out was preferable. The Bearming theme is a good solution. Minimal with spice. If you want to pimp your blog, Robert provides nice options. It’s a training wheels approach to customizing a blog that works because Robert’s design is well done and constantly evolving.
After deciding the theme question I added a Photos page using the Lightbox add-on. This was finicky because I wasn’t familiar with Cloudflare R2 buckets. Once I understood that, the add-on worked perfectly.
I put Robert’s Bear age widget at the bottom of my HOME page. The Bearming Amber pallet is a nice, neutral schema.
This post has turned into a Robert Birming commercial. Fine with me. I’ve never met or spoke with Robert but I like his posts. His generous sharing. Thanks for the lift Robert. Much appreciated! Hello world!
